2 great games of rugby today. We started at home to Stoke in the 9/10 play off. It was a closely fought game and the performance we put in was excellent. Some brilliant rugby and although Stoke just pipped us we can hold our heads up and be proud of the performance. On another day we could have won, but we will learn from it and move forward.
We then had an afternoon kick off at Leek in the County Final, where we proved what we’ve known for a while, that we are the outstanding team in the County. We last won silverware in the Under 7 age group, the following year all mini’s tournaments were made noncompetitive by the RFU, meaning that for 5 seasons we couldn’t win another trophy.
We have waited a long time to have our chance again and we took it – and then some.
The lads had a quiet confidence about them before the game. I was nervous and apprehensive, trying desperately to hide it from the boys. But they never looked worried. They always had it under control. Played the game on their terms and controlled it throughout.
We scored early, never eased up on the pressure, suffocated them when they attacked and punished them when we did. It was as near perfection as it gets at under 13’s rugby. To play in a county final and end the result early with a 50-0 mercy scoreline is unheard of.
Just as impressive as their rugby is the camaraderie they show as a team. They supported each other and fought for each other from the first whistle to the last. It was great to see the boys from the first game there to watch and celebrate afterwards. This cup win is for the whole squad, regardless of who played in the final. Everyone has contributed to get us here and we celebrate as one team.
Huge thank you to the parents/guardians, Uncles, Aunts, Grandparents & friends that came out to watch. Brilliant support.
Enjoy this boys. You deserve it!
