For those who don’t know me, my name’s Dave Shannon and I’ve been the mini and junior chairman at Longton Rugby Club for the past 2 seasons. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time heading up one of the best junior sections in the County.
Over those 2 years we’ve achieved so much as a club. We’ve almost doubled the number of children at the club, we now have an ever expanding girls section and we’ve brought in sponsors to ensure that your children get their own match shirt each season.
During lockdown I was lucky enough to finish my qualifications to become a bookkeeper and set up my new bookkeeping business. Running this alongside my current business as well as other personal commitments means I no longer have the time it takes to dedicate myself to the chairman role. So, with a new season now imminent I believe now is the right time for me to hand over the reigns and step down from my role as mini and junior chairman.
This decision has been made over the past couple of months in close discussion with the junior committee members. My replacement has been decided with unanimous support from the committee, and I am extremely pleased to announce that taking up the role of mini and junior chair with immediate effect is Matt Adderley. Many of you will already know Matt. He’s been involved with the club for many years, and currently coaches the side which last season were the U13 County champions! I brought Matt onto the junior committee when I first started as chair 2 years ago. He has been a major part in the development of our girls teams and he has been the lead in bringing sponsorship to the juniors.
I will remain on the junior committee and look forward to helping everyone return to rugby safely over these coming months. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank every player, parent, grandparent, coach and volunteer that has supported the club over the recent years.
I wish Matt all of the best in his new role and I hope you will give him and the club your full support in the future.
So, thank you again, and I look forward to seeing everyone back at the club from the 6th September
